  • Road Trip to Ford Fan Appreciation Day.

The Fourth Annual Ford Fan Appreciation Day was held August 4 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. The event was geared toward Ford's involvement in NASCAR racing, but they also made sure that there was something for every type of race fan. Many Ford drivers shared show cars, autographs, and interviews with fans from around the country. Driver simulation cars, and the Coca-Cola Wall of Speed permitted the fans to test their skills behind the wheel. The highlight of the show was the public unveiling of the 'Taurus 2k' race car.

Show Cars were in abundance with displays from Rusty Wallace, Kenny Irwin Jr., Dale Jarrett, Rick Mast, Bill Elliott, Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd, Elliott Sadler, and Brett Bodine.

Several thousand fans lined up for Autograph sessions held by Rusty Wallace, Jeremy Mayfield, Kenny Irwin Jr., Dale Jarrett, Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Bill Elliott, Ricky Rudd, Darrell Waltrip, and Jimmy Spencer.

In interview sessions moderated by Allen Bestwick, fans were able to ask their favorite drivers questions. These ranged from "What is Rusty Wallace's favorite track", "How is sponsorship lining up" for Ricky Rudd, "What are Darrell Waltrips retirement plans", to some really good technical questions for Robert Yates and Todd Parrott.

The Highlight of the show was the unveiling of the Ford 'Taurus 2k' NASCAR Winston Cup race car in front of an estimated 14,000 fans. The 'Taurus 2k' will make its racing debut at Daytona in February, competing against the new 2000 Monte Carlo. "We challenged our engineers and designers to ensure the sleek styling changes to the new race car are the same the public will see on the production Taurus this fall," Said Bob Rewey, Group Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Service. "It's always been important to us that the car NASCAR fans see on the track looks like the one they can see in a Ford dealership showroom".

For anyone who has not seen the street version of the new Taurus, the 2000 Taurus features new front and rear fascias, new hood, revised trunk area, and new rear window design.

We had the opportunity to meet many people who come to The Racers Network ™, looking for race cars and racing related items to purchase. We also met several people who have sold cars, parts and trailers as a result of having a classified advertisement on The Racers Network ™. It is always great to meet and talk with you.

We especially wish to thank Ford Motor Company, Ford Racing Technology, Marti Rompf of Ford Marketing, and the Ford NASCAR drivers for having us. It was great being invited to attend the Fan Appreciation Day. They permitted us to rub shoulders with other media such as ESPN, This Week in NASCAR, Winston Cup Scene, and various other TV and newspaper publications. We look forward to attending other Ford Racing events in the future.
